EYA - Foundation For African Leaders
After attending our ERASMUS+ program, Esther Yesutor Agbozo continued to develop a “Mental Health Sensitization” project that became deeply rooted in the Human-Centered Design process she applied. Beyond that, we made sure that Esther´s endeavors were aligned to her personal career concept. Being back in Ghana she started a pilot mental health program aimed at equipping young students in Ghana with the extensive knowledge they need to build resilience against the fear and stigma that exists against mental health issues especially in Africa.
The pilot was done in Kaneshie Kingsway 2 Junior High school In Accra, Ghana with 98 participants.
The discussion sessions were preceded by a pre-questionnaire which assessed the level of mental health knowledge the students already had.
This was followed by 6 highly interactive sessions on different mental health topics including the difference between mental health and mental illness, the causes of mental illness, types of mental illness, the treatment options for mental illness and also how to support others with mental health challenges.
The project will end with a post-questionnaire which would help to determine the amount of knowledge acquired by the students from these sessions.
Based on the evaluation of the first project phase On The Move e.V. and Esther´s NGO “EYA” will jointly iterate the outcome and support her in the further development and implementation.
